bilingual answering
Bilingual Answering Service — English and Spanish, One Queue
Spanish is answered by native speakers in our Bolivia and Nicaragua operation centres, on the same number and the same queue as English. No transfer, no language menu, no machine translation sitting between your customer and a person.
AI voice $0.15 a minute · live agents from $300 a month for 500 minutes · no bilingual surcharge, because it is the same service in two languages rather than a second product.
the part vendors skip
Everyone says "bilingual". Almost nobody says what happens on the Spanish call.
Bilingual support is sold as a checkbox. The pricing page says the word, the sales call confirms the word, and the buyer moves on — because the question underneath it is awkward to ask and awkward to answer.
The question is: when a customer starts speaking Spanish, what physically happens next? Is there a transfer? A menu? Software translating in the gap? Or is the person who picked up simply able to keep going?
Those four answers produce four completely different customer experiences at the same price point. Ask any vendor you are evaluating — including us — to describe the next thirty seconds of that call. The ones who cannot are telling you something.
where bilingual answering breaks
Four failure modes, and which one you are buying.
The transfer
The most common setup is an English line with a Spanish transfer. The caller waits on hold after already waiting, explains the problem a second time to a new person, and a meaningful share simply hang up. One queue removes the step entirely.
The language menu
"Para español, oprima dos." It works for a caller who is comfortable only in Spanish. It fights a bilingual caller who would have started in English and switched — which is most US bilingual callers under forty.
The translation layer
Real-time machine translation is impressive in a demo and thin in a real call. It loses idiom, it loses tone, and it turns an emotional call into a stilted one at the exact moment the customer needed to feel heard.
The written record
A call handled in Spanish and summarised badly in English is a ticket your team cannot act on. Our summaries come through in the language you run your business in, with the caller's own words preserved where they matter.
who is actually answering
Bolivia and Nicaragua, not a translation vendor.
Callnovo has run operation centres since 2004. Spanish is answered from La Paz, Bolivia and Managua, Nicaragua — both listed with street addresses on our contact page, because a delivery location you cannot verify is a claim, not a fact.
That matters for a practical reason beyond authenticity: those teams sit in US-adjacent time zones. Spanish coverage during North American business hours does not require anybody to work a night shift, which is the difference between a team that stays and a team that turns over every few months.
Same queue
- English and Spanish answered by the same team
- No transfer, no hold, no second explanation
- Code-switching mid-sentence is normal, not an error state
Native, not translated
- Agents in Bolivia and Nicaragua, Spanish as a first language
- Idiom and tone survive the call
- Mandarin and Cantonese also native; 60+ more through wider coverage
Records in your language
- Call summaries in the language you run your business in
- Caller's own words preserved where they matter
- Timestamped, so a disputed call can be checked rather than argued
what it costs
Published rates. No bilingual surcharge.
Most vendors in this category quote by form, and several charge a premium for Spanish. We do not, because it is not a separate product — it is the same agents on the same queue. The per-minute figures below are the monthly price divided by the included minutes.
| Option | Published price | Per minute | What it's for |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI voice | $0.15 | per minute | Scheduling, hours, directions and rate questions in either language |
| Web chat | $0.05 | per session | Spanish-language enquiries from your site, answered in Spanish |
| Live shared team | from $300 / month | includes 500 min → ≈ $0.60/min | One queue answering English and Spanish, no transfer step |
| Live shared team | from $650 / month | includes 1,500 min → ≈ $0.43/min | Higher volume, or extended hours across time zones |
| Dedicated agent | from $5.80 | per hour, per agent | Your scripts, your systems, a named bilingual team |
Minimum engagement is half a seat, and five days is our normal window to staff a live account — five days to find and place an agent who fits your business, not five days of software setup. These are published packages, not a quote: hours, volume and language mix all move the number.
who takes which call
Language does not change the routing rule.
The split between AI and a person is the same in Spanish as in English — it depends on what a wrong answer costs, not on which language the question arrived in.
| The call | Route to | Cost of getting it wrong |
|---|---|---|
| Hours, directions, rates — in either language | AI | An annoyed caller |
| Booking or moving an appointment | AI | An annoyed caller |
| A caller who switches languages mid-sentence | Human | A menu-driven system fighting the customer for the rest of the call |
| Complaints, cancellations, anything emotional | Human | The customer, and a public review in either language |
| Anything where a mistranslation has consequences | Human | A misunderstanding you find out about days later |
when we're the wrong choice
Three cases where you should hire someone else.
- You need a specific national accent. Our Spanish is Latin American, from Bolivian and Nicaraguan teams. If your customers are, say, overwhelmingly Puerto Rican or Cuban and that difference matters to your brand, be honest with yourself about whether neutral Latin American Spanish is close enough — and tell us, so we can staff for it or tell you we cannot.
- You need Spanish-language legal or medical advice. We answer, qualify, document and route in Spanish. We do not advise in any language. A bilingual attorney or clinician is a different hire, and no answering service should be pretending otherwise.
- One Spanish call a week. At that volume a good bilingual voicemail greeting and a callback is genuinely fine. Take the AI tier at $0.15 a minute if you want the calls answered, and skip the live coverage until Spanish is a real share of your phone.
questions
What buyers ask before they sign.
Are your Spanish agents native speakers?
Yes. Spanish is answered from our operation centres in Bolivia and Nicaragua, by people who grew up speaking it. It is not a translation layer, not an English agent using software, and not a callback from someone who will phone back in Spanish later.
Does a Spanish caller get transferred?
No. English and Spanish share one queue, so whoever picks up handles the call in the language it came in. The most common failure in bilingual answering is the transfer — the caller waits, explains twice, and hangs up. Removing that step is most of the value.
Which Spanish do your agents speak?
Latin American Spanish, from Bolivian and Nicaraguan teams. In practice that is neutral enough for US callers from Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and South America. If your customer base is heavily one country, tell us and we will staff for it rather than claim it does not matter.
How much does a bilingual answering service cost?
The same as our English service, because it is the same service: AI voice at $0.15 per minute, web chat at $0.05 per session, live agents from $300 per month including 500 minutes, or from $5.80 per hour for a dedicated agent. We do not charge a bilingual surcharge.
Can you handle callers who switch between English and Spanish mid-sentence?
That is normal and it is one of the reasons a bilingual person beats a language-selection menu. Bilingual callers switch mid-sentence constantly — a menu forces them to pick a lane before the conversation starts, and then the wrong lane fights them for the rest of the call.
What other languages do you cover?
Mandarin and Cantonese with native speakers, plus 60+ more through our wider coverage. Tell us the language, the volume and the hours you need, and we will tell you plainly whether we can staff it properly rather than saying yes to everything.
start
Tell us what share of your calls arrive in Spanish.
Send us a normal week of call volume and roughly how much of it is Spanish. We will come back with a split — which calls go to AI, which reach a person, and what both cost at your numbers. Half a seat is a real starting point.
